2008 Cyber Monday Specials

Just as Black Friday is the biggest in-store shopping day of the year, Cyber Monday is the biggest ONLINE shopping day of the year. People who work the Monday-Friday, 9-5 type gigs frequently miss out on Black Friday sales, but often wait until the following Monday, Cyber Monday, and do a lot of their holiday shopping online from work. While a lot of Cyber Monday deals will not be publicized until Monday, here are a few of the sales I did find:

Best Buy: (<– Click on the link to take you directly to the Cyber Monday sale page at Best Buy!)

Special discounts are available at Best Buy across several product categories, such as Car & GPS, Home Appliances, Music, Computers, and Video Games. Sale prices available Sunday, November 30 - Monday, December 1.

Circuit City: (<– Click on the link to take you directly to the Cyber Monday sale page at Circuit City!)

Big savings are available at Circuit City on camcorders, desktop computers, laptop computers, digital cameras, mp3 players, digital photo frames, and much more! Sale prices available Sunday, November 30 - Monday, December 1.

Office Depot: (<– Click on the link to take you directly to the Cyber Monday sale page at Office Depot!)

Not a fantastic sale. Office Depot is offering Buy One, Get One 50% Off on a few select items. I would check back on Monday to see if any other offers are available.

Some online merchants are explicitly stating “Come back on Monday, December 1, for Cyber Monday specials.” Among those that I found saying this were:

Save Money This Holiday Season: Stretch Your Holiday Shopping Dollar

I decided to take a break from hunting down holiday bargains tonight and instead offer up some advice on how to leverage every holiday shopping dollar you can get your hands on. As a result, I wrote this article, titled the same as this post. Please feel free to go read the full article - it should open in a new window.

Here’s a summary of a few of the money saving tips that I included in my article:

  • Turn spare change into cash or gift cards.
  • Shop online at places like Plastic Jungle to get discounted gift cards, then use those gift cards to do your purchasing of holiday gifts.
  • Use reward program points that you have collected throughout the year to obtain free magazine subscriptions and the like that can be gifted to others.
  • Sell your junk or the bad gifts that you got last year and forgot to return on eBay to earn extra money for your holiday shopping.

These are just a few of the pointers offered in the article, so I hope you will go read it. I’ll be back tomorrow with another round of awesome deals for the holiday shopper!

Obviously, this is but a small piece of the doorbuster specials that will be available to eager shoppers on Black Friday 2008. Before you head out to the stores, check your favorite retailers’ websites for coupons that can be printed for in-store use and advertisements so that you know exactly what you’re looking for when the doors open. Outerwear Up to 50% Off at Old Navy

www.oldnavy.comI browsed on over to the Gap this evening to see if there was anything that caught my eye as I have a gift card to burn. Nothing really stood out to me, so I went ahead and checked out sister site Old Navy to see what was happening there. I was delighted to find that, this week only, outerwear for the entire family is up to 50% off at Old Navy! They’ve got some very cute stuff, too, including different styles of wool-blend coats, frost-free puffer-style coats and vests, and many other options for men, women, and kids. Hats, gloves, and scarves are also on sale. I decided to pick up the Women’s Belted Wool-Blend Coat in Cream seen in the picture at right. Marked down to $39.75 from the original $79.50, this coat’s three-quarter length sleeves might not exactly be practical in winter, but they’re very fashionable right now. To help keep my hands and wrists warm, I also picked up a pair of gloves. Oh, and because it would look a little silly buttoned up all the way to the top, I also picked up a couple of cute, colorful scarves to help keep my neck warm - all on sale, of course!

If you have an Old Navy credit card, you can also get an extra 10% off of your purchase. I’m guessing that a Gap or Banana Republic card would work here, too, though I’m not fully certain about this. Never hurts to try! Also, remember, if there’s anything on the Gap or Banana Republic sites that you want to add to your order, you can do so without paying any additional shipping charges. Add a cute pair of shoes from Piperlime, and shipping for the entire order is FREE!

Ebates also offers a 6% cash rebate for shopping through any of the aforementioned Gap-family etailers, making this deal even more rich!

Retired Handbags on Sale at Vera Bradley!

Founded in the 1980’s by Patricia Miller and Barbara Bradley Baekgaard, gift industry leader Vera Bradley has spent more than two decades crafting quality luggage, quilted cotton handbags and other accessories.

www.verabradley.comI love Vera Bradley handbags. Even more, I love Vera Bradley handbags on sale. This photo is of VB’s Microfiber Patch Pocket Tote. With lots of clever pockets, the Patch Pocket Tote is super roomy and, like all of Vera Bradley’s handbags, very sturdy. This particular bag’s original retail price was $97, but the sale price is a mere $38.80. Wow!

The Patch Pocket Tote is just one of many items for sale now at Vera Bradley. Select retired colors and styles are available for up to 60% off original retail prices. The most recent color retirees are Mesa Red, the bright paisley Capri Blue, the floral Botanica, and the ever popular Pink Elephants.

verabradley.com

Here’s the Curvy Tote in Pink Elephants. Originally sold for $62, this handbag is now on sale for $24.80. This is another of my favorite styles from Vera Bradley. With its long shoulder straps and curved design, the Curvy Tote nestles nicely against the body and helps maintain a sleek profile - very fashionable!

Vera Bradley is one of many etailers that can be linked to via Ebates, giving the buyer 3% cash back on every purchase. Retired Vera Bradley bags can also be purchased at Ebags, which offers an 8% cash rebate through Ebates, or from Amazon.

Great bags at great prices PLUS cash back? What could be better?

It’s Sweater Season at Victoria’s Secret

Last night while my husband snored happily on the couch, I was on the computer. This is pretty typical. When I was tired of doing research for the various projects I have in the works, I turned, as I so often do, to shopping.

Earlier this year, we had planned to move to Florida to be near my father-in-law. The plan fell through, however, and we decided to stay in New York. The only problem, however, is that I had gotten rid of many of my winter clothes in anticipation of mild Florida winters. So I’ve spent my spare time over the last several weeks beefing up my winter wardrobe. I’m almost there, but I need more tops. I headed to Victoria’s Secret to see what I could find, knowing that I frequently have good luck.

Yahtzee! Victoria’s Secret is having a phenomenal sale on tons of gorgeous sweaters. I picked up three sweaters for $19 apiece, plus a dressier boucle sweater for $29. I was certainly happy with these bargains by themselves, but a little research made me realize that I wasn’t quite finished.

A banner on one of the screens of Victoria’s Secret site proferred coupon code 25ITEM to take 25% off any one item. A banner on the main screen for sweaters offered coupon code RUSH08 for a free Beauty Rush lip gloss set. A quick scan of RetailMeNot yielded, among others, coupon code FA814857, which is good for a free messenger bag with purchase. The beauty of all of this? You can use up to three coupon codes on a single order at Victoria’s Secret!

The 25ITEM code applied itself to the most expensive item in my bag (the $29 sweater). The free lip gloss set and messenger bags also appeared in my cart, which means that I walked away with a lip gloss set, a messenger bag, and four great sweaters for $95.52 including tax and shipping. The shipping added more than I liked ($13.99 - FREE would have been my preferred price), but I felt that the sweaters were worth it.

The 25ITEM coupon expires on Monday, November 10. I haven’t been able to find a RUSH08 expiration date (the offer doesn’t seem to be posted on the site today, but a test order using that code this afternoon showed that it still works), and the FA814857 code is good through November 26. As of today, Victoria’s Secret has posted a new code: GIFTS08, which takes $15 off an order of $100 or more, $30 off $150, $75 off $250, or $150 off $500.

Oh, I should also mention that initially linked to Victoria’s Secret through my Ebates account, which will give me 4% cash back from my order. Sweet! :)

Happy Shopping!

Hello, Shoppers!

Before I get down to business, I wanted to take a moment to say hello to my would-be readers. ‘Tis very nice to meet you! My name is Em, and I’ll be your tour guide as we shop together on the ‘Net.

I love shopping online, even if it is just window shopping. I’m notorious for visiting a favorite etailer, loading up a shopping cart, then navigating away without completing a purchase. This may sound silly, but it’s actually therapeutic for me. I’ve been guilty, in the past, of using shopping as a drug, as a way to get over whatever made me unhappy in my life. Shoes have never once let me down, unlike many people. I’m moving past that attitude, however! I still love to shop, but I’m also trying desperately, for the first time in my life, to save money. A new sweater may make me feel good briefly, but it certainly will not move me any closer to retirement!

Anyway, the point of this blog is for me to share with you the deals and steals that I find while browsing the web. I’ll share favorite sites for finding bargains, great sales, coupon codes, whatever I can find that will help you to find great stuff at great prices. Also, I welcome you post up any great deals that you find in the comments section below. Doesn’t matter what it is – handbags, the Elmo toy du jour, chainsaws – if it’s a great deal, I want to know about it!

I hope you’ll shop with me.
